Language Study Lab - Language Learning Resources

Language study resources

Your choice of language learning resources depends upon your preferred learning styles, your motivation, and your finances.

Language learning resources can be "low-tech" such as flash cards, dictionaries and library books…or "high-tech" with the use of specialized software, Internet resources and interactive study aids.

Resources can be impersonal, such as listening to CDs while commuting to work; or personal, such as with the help of a tutor, teacher or study partner.

With all language study strategies, checking to determine what strategies and resources are delivering the best results is crucial.

But, focus upon small-steps toward language mastery.

Ignore the inviting search for "magic-bullet," "make learning easy with no effort" ads, and stick with resources that you can "stick with."

Consistency and commitment for daily practice are more important than that new, expensive, language program from an acclaimed language expert.

Consistency and commitment (and a focus upon any enjoyable method) yields results for language study.

This is because many of the resources that you need for mastering a language are internal. Language study is more than the pursuit of academic subject and a good grade on a test.

Language mastery is an applied, real-world skill that is shared with others. Unlike an academic subject that is studied and seldom used in a specific situation; languages are alive, dynamic, organic, functional.

Language learning also brings the study "up front and personal" because as you master a language, you come to know a lot more about yourself.

Summary: Resources for language learning are all around, and your unlimited imagination can produce an unlimited number of uses for common (even low-cost or free) resources. But, consistency in using whatever resources you decide to employ is key to language learning.
